Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make real-time volume rendering applicable to a personal or desk- top computer.
SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a certain number of memory modules 42 for storing an inputted volume data set; a volume graphics rendering engine having processing modules 40 connected to the memory modules and connected to one another in a ring as many as the memory modules; and a means which groups voxels in the volume data set so that a group of voxels can be taken out of successive memory addresses of the memory modules 42 irrespective of an observation direction. Consequently, the memory modules can be used so that fast access from the successive memory addresses is ensured.
