PURPOSE: To facilitate the printing of a mark by installing an ink jet type printing head which is shiftable in the vertical direction and transferring said head to the end position of a certain amount of superposed papersheets and printing a mark onto the edge surface of the paper sheet at the end position.
CONSTITUTION: The captioned apparatus is equipped with a videocamera 1 and an ink jet printer head 2 which are elevated along the guides 3 and 5 through the turning of feed screws 4 and 6 revolved by pulse motors M1 and M2, respectively. An arm plate 11 which projects towards the side is installed onto the head 2, in the front and back position relation with the top edge of an ink jet nozzle. The image of the side surface A of the superposed paper sheets which is caught by the videocamera 1 is displayed onto a monitoring CRT, with the intensified shadow lines between the paper sheets. Then, the number of shadow lines is electrically counted, and when the number, i.e., the number of paper sheets reaches a prescribed value, ink is jetted-out from the head 2, and a partitioning mark is printed.
