PURPOSE: To set an optimum noise reduction characteristic and to enhance the picture quality further more respectively by varying the noise reduction characteristic with a luminance signal and a chrominance signal.

CONSTITUTION: An error signal (noise component) S14 between signals S11 and S13 different from one frame obtained by a subtractor circuit 24 in a timing when an input signal S11 has a dot data is given to a coefficient device 28 or 29 via a switch circuit 26, in which the signal is multiplied by a prescribed multiple and given to an adder circuit 21 via a switch circuit 27 and a switch circuit 25 sequentially and an error signal S16 is eliminated from the input signal S11 to apply noise reduction processing. Moreover, the switch circuits 26,27 are switched interlockingly to validate the coefficient device 28 with respect to a luminance signal component of the input signal S11 and to validate the coefficient device 29 with respect to a chrominance signal component of the input signal S11, then the different noise reduction processing from the luminance signal and the chrominance signal is used for the processing.
