To provide a receiver and a receiving method capable of demodulating sound in a less sense of incongruity with excellent listening quality at a reduced cost by sufficiently reducing a sense of incongruity caused in a shift between stereo sound and monaural sound with a simple configuration while ensuring a required stereo region.
The receiver including: a multi-path noise detection circuit for detecting multi-path noise mixed in a received signal; and a time constant providing circuit for providing a time-constant to a detection signal of the multi-path noise detection circuit, and capable of controlling a degree of stereo separation in response to the multi-path noise by adjusting a shift time between stereo sound and monaural sound by means of the time constant on the basis of the detection signal to which the time constant is provided by the time constant providing circuit, is provided with maximum separation degree control circuits 12, 13 for controlling a maximum value of the stereo separation degree in response to the detection signal.
