Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the detection ratio of one broken line or a half broken line fault and to monitor the erroneous restoration of the fault in a token ring LAN system in compliance with the IEEE802.5.
CONSTITUTION: The total number of frames circulating through rings 3, 4 and the propriety of a frame checking sequence (hereinafter called as FCS) of the frames are always monitored. When the number of frames causing an FCS error reaches the prescribed rate of the number of the entire frames, it is judged that the fault takes place in the ring 3 or 4 and it is detected, the ring is looped back automatically to form a transmission line including no faulty point of the ring. Furthermore, an LLC frame is sent by plural number of times to a transmission line including the fault location and the ring loopback is released depending on the number of times of the LLC frames received normally to restore the ring.
