PURPOSE: To provide improved special reproduction pictures with simple constitution by adding identification codes for special reproduction to the signals before taking difference of a part of difference signals encoded by using a difference pulse code modulation(DPCM) system, performing recording and performing reproduction and output based on the identification codes.
CONSTITUTION: The difference extracted in a difference data extraction circuit 1 is encoded by the difference pulse code modulation in a signal generation circuit 2, passed through a non-difference data insertion circuit 3 and a recording processing circuit 4 and recorded in a recording medium 6. In the meantime, identification signals for the special reproduction read from a built-in memory are added to the signals before taking the difference inputted to the circuit 1 in the circuit 3 and they are recorded in the recording medium. Then, at the time of the special reproduction, only data capable of screen constitution are outputted from reproducing signals based on the identification signals for the special reproduction and the improved special reproduction pictures are also obtained with the simple constitution using the DPCM system.
