To enable phase adjustment in less time in a technique for reducing the torque ripple of a motor used in a recording apparatus or the like.
A recording apparatus comprises: a drive means having a motor as a drive source and configured to move a carriage; a detecting means configured to detect the position of the carriage; a generation means configured to generate control data for controlling the motor; and a control means configured such that, in order to nullify the torque ripple of the motor, the control data is corrected using correction data that changes in the same period as the torque ripple and that the phase of the correction data with respect to the position of the carriage is adjusted. The control means adjusts the phase by comparing the detection results of the position of the carriage detected by the detecting means when the pattern of power supply to the motor is fixed to a specific pattern of power supply while the carriage is located in the predetermined position, with the past detection results of the position.
