To reduce variation in thickness of an ink layer at a boundary between bands and to improve recording quality of an image arranged across the band boundary, in the formation of a background on a recording material by band-recording.
The recording apparatus includes: a recording head 15 discharging a UV ink from nozzle arrays 5 arranged side by side in the conveying direction of the recording material; a carriage which reciprocates mounted with the recording head; an ultraviolet light irradiation unit hardening the UV ink discharged from the recording head 15; and a control unit 21 controlling an amount of ink droplets discharged from each nozzle 7, an irradiation amount of ultraviolet light to be irradiated from each LED 41 and a feeding amount of the recording material. The control unit 21 performs intermittent conveyance of the recording material by band feeding amount D and band-recording, and also, includes a first band-feeding/recording mode in which band-recording is performed so that the boundaries 49 of the bands 47 adjacent to each other in the conveying direction overlap each other, and a second band-feeding/recording mode in which band-recording is performed so that the adjacent boundaries do not overlap each other.
