To eliminate the following inconvenience: when paper types in an external device do not conform to paper types in a recording device, or when a plurality of paper information items conform to a single paper information item, the user has difficulty in setting the desired paper type.

In the recording device, the selectable paper information items are brought into correspondence with the paper types held in the external device, and correspondence information is displayed when the paper type is selected.
