PURPOSE: To obtain a recording device, wherein holes are provided at specified positions of recording paper, a hole is provided at a specified position of a guiding plate that guides the paper to a feeding roller, an element which irradiates light to said holes and an element which receives the reflected light from the holes are provided, and the edge part of the paper can be detected.

CONSTITUTION: Recording paper 1, which is folded and enclosed, is moved along a guiding plate 2 under the state the paper is pulled out and spread. The paper is introduced to a paper feeding roller 3, and recording is performed on the roller 3 by a pen 4. In this device, a hole 6 is provided at a specified position of the recording paper 1 and a hole 7 is provided at a position where said hole 6 in the guiding plate 2 passes. An element 8 which projects light to said hole 7 (e.g. light emitting diode) and an element 9 which detects the light reflected by the paper 1 through said hole 7 (e.g. phototransistor) are provided at the back surface of the guiding plate 2. It is desirable that the roller 3 is a black rubber roller.
