Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material determination device and an image formation apparatus which can accurately detect and determine the type of a recording material.SOLUTION: A recording material determination device which detects the basis weight and surface nature of a recording material for determining the type of the recording material comprises: an ultrasonic detection unit which includes an ultrasonic transmission part transmitting an ultrasonic wave and an ultrasonic reception part provided so as to face the ultrasonic transmission part and receiving the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the ultrasonic transmission part, and detects the basis weight of the recording material by transmitting and receiving the ultrasonic wave via a transport path of the recording material; a surface nature detection unit which is provided side by side with the ultrasonic reception part in the width direction orthogonal to the transport direction of the recording material, irradiates the recording material with light and detects the surface nature of the recording material from the reflection light; and a press member which is provided so as to face the surface nature detection unit and presses the recording material against the surface nature detection unit. Pressing members pressing the recording material toward the ultrasonic reception part are provided on both sides in the width direction of the ultrasonic detection unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
