PURPOSE: To obtain a red dye-containing floccose tissues giving a red dye at a certain value by infecting a plant tissue of KOSIN DAIKON (Raphanus sativus, L.) with a bacterium in Agrobacterium to induce floccose tissues, selecting the floccose tissues excellent in production capability of red dye, and culturing them through specific two-step process.
CONSTITUTION: A plant tissue of Raphanus sativus, L. is infected with a bacterium in Agrobacterium such as Agrobacterium rhizogenes to induce fluccuse tissues (hairy roots). Then, the hairy roots excellent in red dye production are selected, cultured at first in a medium free from plant hormone to effect proliferation, then, cultured in a medium containing plant hormone such as auxin to obtain red dye-containing floccose tissues. The tissues can be used directly for dyeing fibers, but the red dye anthocyanin dye) is extracted, when needed, for utilization.
