This red fluorescent substance is obtained by making an oxide fluorescent substance 2 adhere to the surface of a red fluorescent substance 1 containing sulfur. Thereby, the red fluorescent substance containing the sulfur can be used for a fluorescent lamp and the early blackening of the fluorescent lamp can further be suppressed. A red fluorescent substance prepared by making a powder or a fluorescent film of a europium-activated yttrium oxide fluorescent substance adhere to the surface of a europium-activated yttrium oxysulfide fluorescent substance can be used for the fluorescent lamp to thereby improve the color rendering properties of the fluorescent lamp for red color.
