To provide a redox reaction apparatus employing an electrode, especially a photocatalytic electrode, having a high utilization efficiency of energy of light rays with wavelength in a visible light region and a relatively high reduction power at the time of generating hydrogen by decomposing water, capable of generating oxygen simultaneously, and stable even under light irradiation condition.
The redox reaction apparatus is provided with an electrode containing Cu2O on the surface and an aqueous solution containing Li ion and carries out redox reaction by irradiating light rays to the electrode immersed in the aqueous solution. The aqueous solution containing Li ion preferably has a Li ion concentration in a range of 0.1 to 10 mol/L and a pH value in a range of 7 to 14.
