To provide a method for restraining formation and extension of an N-acetyllactosamine repeated structure in a sugar chain to be added to glycoprotein or glycolipid in a cell capable of producing glycoprotein or glycolipid, and to provide a method for producing glycoprotein or glycolipid using eukaryotic cells in which the content of the N-acetyllactosamine repeated structure in the sugar chain is reduced and uniformity in side sugar chains is more improved.
By increasing the amount of expression of sialic acid transferase gene in a cell capable of producing glycoprotein or glycolipid each having a sugar chain and by increasing the relative activity of the sialic acid transferase to β-1,3-N-acetylglucosamine transferase activity in a cell, formation and extension of an N-acetyllactosamine repeated structure in a sugar chain to be added to glycoprotein or glycolipid produced from the cell is restrained and the content of the N-acetyllactosamine repeated structure in the sugar chain which glycoprotein or glycolipid has is reduced.
