Abstract:
Purge gas contg. CO produced by treating alkali medium of paper and pulp in a de-lignification process in the presence of oxygen is purified as follows. The purge gas is cooled and its moisture content is condensed and removed. The dry purge gas is mixed with a purified gas in a specified amt. proportional to the CO content then preheated at an initial temp. for performing its catalytic reaction. The CO in the diluted purge gas is reacted with the oxygen in the purified gas as an oxidising agent in contact with a catalyst contg. 0.2-0.4 wt % of Pt at 250-400 degrees C at an elevated pressure equal to the pressure of the de-lignification process and the CO is converted into CO2. The treated gas taken out is sepd. into two gas streams, of which is partially cooled. Part of two streams are mixed to obtain a specified low temp. and the gas mixt. is recycled to the de-lignification process. The rest of the gas streams are mixed are used for diluting the dry purge gas.
