To provide a refractory material and a joint material suitable for the production of a high purity aluminum ingot having a small Na content, and a furnace or a vessel, or the like., used for this production.
A refractory material for high purity molten aluminum is composed of ≥97 wt.% alumina (Al2O3), ≤0.2 wt.% Na2O and the balance of a binder and inevitable impurities. Further, the refractory material also includes electromelted alumina and/or low soda alumina as alumina, and a material containing a binder composed of P2O3 and Fe2O3 by ≤2 wt.% total weight. The high purity Al metal is melted in a melting furnace formed by using the above refractory material, and after holding it in a holding furnace formed with the same refractory material, the high purity molten Al undergoing degassing treatment is cast into a mold and thus, a high purity aluminum ingot having a small Na content can be obtd.
