Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a refractory having excellent corrosion resistance in a high-temperature atmosphere containing silicon chloride gas by adjusting the total carbon content in a refractory resistant to silicon chloride-containing atmosphere to a level higher than a specific level.
CONSTITUTION: This refractory has a total carbon content of ≥80wt.%. Carbon is stable as a material to be used at a high temperature but highly susceptible to oxidation. The oxidation resistance is improved by adding SiC, B4C, etc., and adjusting the total carbon amount to ≥80wt.%. The refractory is sufficiently durable to the use in a silicon chloride-containing atmosphere up to 2000°C.
