Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide refrigerant compositions and methods as a replacement for ozone-depleting refrigerant chlorodifluoromethane (R-22) in a low temperature freezing (cooling) system containing the R-22 refrigerant, the compositions not requiring any significant modification of components or lubricants yet still being able to obtain at least about 90% of operating characteristics of the R-22 composition.SOLUTION: A refrigerant composition contains (a) 28 to 32 wt.% of difluoromethane (HFC-32); (b) 28 to 32 wt.% of pentafluoroethane (HFC-125); and 38 to 42 wt.% of tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a). The composition comprises a ternary composition in the range shown in figure 4 by the trapezoid.
