PURPOSE: To enable attainment of a high cycle efficiency by providing expansion machines, a generator, compressors, a clutch and a refrigerating heat exchanger.
CONSTITUTION: When a hydrogen gas of high pressure is introduced into expansion machines 5 and 6 from a high-pressure hydrogen line 2, a drive shaft 20 of the expansion machines 5 and 6 is driven to rotate by the pressure energy of the hydrogen gas. The hydrogen gas of which the temperature is lowered sharply with expansion in the expansion machines 5 and 6 exchanges heat with a heat exchange medium 31 in a refrigerating heat exchanger 14 and the heat exchange medium 31 circulates between this heat exchanger and cold heat utilizing equipment 32. A force of rotation of the drive shaft 20 of the expansion machines 5 and 6 is transmitted to a generator 7 and compressors 8 and 9. When the force of rotation of the drive shaft 20 is transmitted to the generator 7 by an intermittent operation of a clutch 10 at this time, the generator 7 generates an electric power. When it is transmitted to the compressors 8 and 9, the compressors 8 and operate and thereby a hydrogen gas of low pressure introduced from the expansion machine 6 is made the hydrogen gas of high pressure and returned to the high-pressure hydrogen line 2.
