To restart an expander without stopping a compressor.
An air conditioner (1) includes a refrigerant circuit (10) for mutually connecting the expander (30) and an expansion valve (29) in parallel, and a controller (70) for switching high load operation for operating the compressors (20 and 60) and the expander (30), and low load operation for stopping the expander (30), operating the compressors (20 and 60) and controlling opening of the expansion valve (29). The controller (70) performs differential pressure reducing operation for reducing a pressure difference between an inflow side refrigerant and an outflow side refrigerant of the expander (30) to a predetermined value or less when switching to the high load operation from the low load operation.
