Abstract:

To obtain a refrigerator with a high reliability having a means for preventing an excessive load from being applied on a bearing of a compressor, by preventing the compressor from being started under the condition that a large pressure difference is present without causing a failure in starting the compressor.

The refrigerator is provided with a refrigeration cycle constituted by sequentially connecting a low pressure shell-type compressor, a condenser, a capillary tube and an evaporator. The refrigerator is further provided with an ON/OFF valve provided in a refrigerant passage between an outlet of the condenser and an inlet of the evaporator so as to open and close the refrigerant passage, and an ON/OFF valve controller for controlling the valve to open while the compressor is being operated and close the valve while the compressor is being interrupted. The controller opens the valve if it should have failed in starting the compressor at least once.
