PURPOSE: To improve the cooling efficiency of a cooling unit and make thinner the unit.

CONSTITUTION: A cooling unit 45 is provided on the upper part of a refrigerator body 11. In the cooling unit 45 there are formed a condenser chamber 14 surrounded with a heat insulating material 14a and a machine chamber 15, which are disposed adjacent to each other horizontally. Accordingly, the cooling unit 45 is made thin compared with the case where the condenser chamber 14 and the machine chamber 15 are disposed adjacent to each other vertically. Further, in the condenser chamber 14 there are accomodated evaporators 21, 22, and a cooling fan 29 is placed in the vicinity of a cold air outlet duct 28 for feeding cold air produced by the evaporators 21, 22. Accordingly, there is no dead space in the evaporator 26 and hence cooling efficiency of the freezing cycle is improved.
