The regeneration device is provided at the prescribed position of an exhaust gas passage, on which a smoke reducing device collecting smoke particles generated in an engine is mounted. The device contains a fuel supply means for supplying fuel to the exhaust gas passage, an ignition means for forming flame, by using fuel supplied from the fuel supply means and exhaust gas discharged from the engine, and an exhaust gas state measuring means for measuring the state of exhaust gas, flowing through the exhaust gas passage mounted at the prescribed position of the exhaust gas passage. On the basis of data measured by the exhaust gas state measuring means, the fuel supply means and the igniting means are controlled.
