Title:
REINFORCED ION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02269745
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce an ion-exchange membrane having a large ion permselectivity, a low resistance and excellent mechanical properties by laminat ing an ion exchange membrane formed from an engineering plastic having aromatic rings in the linear chain with a porous supporting membrane formed from a fiber to form a bilayer membrane. CONSTITUTION:A laminated reinforced membrane composed of an ion exchanger layer comprising a polymer having aromatic rings in the linear chain and having an ion-exchange capacity of 0.5-3.5 milliequivalents/g of resin and a film thick ness of 1-100mum and a porous supporting layer formed from a fiber and having a film thickness of 10-20mum. As said polymer, an aromatic polysulfone copolymer of formula I is desirable. In formula I, Ar is formula II, III or IV; Y is a single bond, -O- or formula V; Z is -O-, -S or -SO2-; R1-R9 are each a 1-8C hydrocarbon group; R10 and R11 are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-6C hydrocarbon group; a-d are each 0-4; e is 0-3; f+g=0-7; h+i=0-5; and m/n=100/1-1/10. As the porous supporting layer, one comprising a nonwoven fabric of a fiber diameter of 0.1-50mum and a fiber length to fiber diameter ratio >=10 is desirable.
