PURPOSE: To provide a relational data base management system in which the procedure of changing an application program can be reduced as much as possible even at the time of changing a chart name to be retrieved.

CONSTITUTION: A chart name type chart in which the relational name of one or plural charts stored in a data base 7 is stored as an attribute corresponding to the retrieval processing of an application program 1 is defined in the data base 7. A relation data base management system 2 is equipped with a chart type check part 6 which judges whether or not the chart to be retrieved in the execution process of the application program is the chart name type, and retrieval executing part 4 which executes the retrieval processing by using the attribute stored in the chart as the object to be retrieved.
