PURPOSE: To automatically adjust the sound volume balance of both sides and the respective sound volume so as to most comfortably hear at the position of a user wherever the user is present in a room by adding a remote controller position detecting function to a stereo.
CONSTITUTION: A remote control position detecting signal generating means, an ordinary signal generating means and an infrared ray signal generating means are incorporated in a remote controller 1 and the remote controller position detecting signal generating means and the ordinary signal generating means respectively generate a signal in a separate timing to transmit the signal via the infrared ray signal generating means. The light receiving elements 21, 22, 23 of a light receiving element 2 are the light receiving elements for detecting the remote controller position and a light receiving element 25 is the light receiving element for detecting the ordinary signal. The light receiving elements 21, 22, 23 are fixed with mounting directions respectively changed to decide the directivity of the infrared ray from the remote controller 1 according to an output current level, detect the direction and the distance of the remote controller 1, change the sound volume of speakers 31, 32 by a sound volume adjusting means 34 and adjust the sound volume of both the sides and the balance thereof so as to hear most comfortably at the position of the user.
