To provide a remote maintenance system capable of automatically carrying out setting allowing communication between a user terminal and a host terminal via a predetermined second transmission path when there is anomaly in a predetermined first transmission path of a plurality of transmission paths, and capable of easily carrying out maintenance in a short time.
The user terminal 1 connected to a PSTN 3 sends a contract signal for remote maintenance and a connection completion signal that a user side LAN 5 is connected to a network interface 6 to the host terminal 2 via the PSTN 3. The host terminal 2 receiving the contract signal and the connection completion signal selects the Internet 4 as a transmission path for sending remote maintenance information to the user terminal 1, and it sends setting information for allowing communication between the user terminal 1 and the host terminal 2 via the Internet 4 to the user terminal 1 via the PSTN 3.
