To provide a repeater capable of performing fault diagnosis of itself.
The repeater which has: a first transmitting/receiving section which performs communication with a portable terminal as a base station function; and a second transmitting/receiving section which performs communication with a fixed base station as a cellular phone function to bear relay of communication between the portable terminal and the fixed base station. The repeater performs, when a trigger for starting the fault diagnosis is detected, the fault diagnosis to a transmitting function as the base station in the first transmitting/receiving section and a receiving function as the cellular phone in the second transmitting/receiving section using a first signal transmitted from the first transmitting/receiving section and received by the second transmitting/receiving section via a first cable, and performs the fault diagnosis to a receiving function as the base station in the first transmitting/receiving section and a transmitting function as the cellular phone in the second transmitting/receiving section using a second signal transmitted from the second transmitting/receiving section and received by the first transmitting/receiving section via a second cable.
