To facilitate the maintenance of a reactor vessel.
An inorganic residue sticking to the inner surface of the reactor vessel as a result of the decomposition of an organic substance with supercritical water is separated by shock wave action generated by giving ultrasonic vibration to the reaction vessel from the outside. An apparatus for the above process comprises the reactor vessel for executing the decomposition of the organic substance with the supercritical water, an adherend detecting means arranged on the outside of the reactor vessel and detecting the inorganic residue sticking to the inner surface of the vessel, and an ultrasonic vibration separating means arranged on the outside of the reactor vessel and separating the inorganic residue sticking to the inner surface of the vessel by the shock wave action.
