To provide a resin composition which exhibits an excellent abrasion resistance while retaining a softness necessary for an electric wire protection tube material even when the thickness is small by compounding and crosslinking a mixture of a poly(vinyl chloride) resin and a polymethacrylic resin with a vinyl monomer or oligomer.
A mixture comprising 100 pts.wt. poly(vinyl chloride) resin having a degree of polymerization of 1,000-2,500 and 10-30 pts.wt., preferably 19-30 pts.wt., polymethacrylic resin having a wt. average mol.wt. of 100,000-300,000 is crosslinked by mixing and kneading the mixture with 0.01-10 pts.wt. monomer or oligomer having at least two vinyl groups by utilizing the mechanical energy in kneading, thus giving a resin composition for electric wire protection tubes. Based on 100 pts.wt. polyvinyl chloride resin, the composition is compounded with 40-70 pts.wt., preferably 45-65 pts.wt., plasticizer for poly(vinyl chloride) resins and 2-10 pts.wt. stabilizer for poly(vinyl chloride) resins.
