PURPOSE: To obtain the subject resin consisting of a specific polymer having a specific average degree of polymerization, THF insoluble portion and molecular weight of THF soluble portion, excellent in fixing properties, non-offset properties, blocking resistance and image stability and useful for a dry type toner, etc. for a copying machine, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This resin for toner is a polymer comprising (A) an aromatic vinyl unit such as styrene, etc., (B) a (metha) acrylic-based compound unit such as (metha)acrylic acid (butyl) ester, etc., and (C) a multi-functional compound unit such as divinylbenzene, dimethacrylic acid 1,3-butyleneglycol, etc., and containing 5-60% of a HF insoluble portion and a THF solubkle portion having ≤2000 molecular weight of the largest peak in molecular weight distribution ≤by a gel permeation chromatography and ≤180 weight averaged degree of polymerization. This resin is obtained by a suspension polymerization of a monomer mixture containing the components (A), (B) and (C) under a condition satisfying formula I (T is a reaction temperature °C) and formula II (P is a reaction pressure kg/cm2; Pθ is a saturated water vapor pressure kg/cm2).
