PURPOSE: To provide a resistance welding electrode material practically free from the occurrence of alloying and deposition of electrode and having high strength and long service life by forming an electrode composed of a copper-iron alloy containing prescribed amounts of iron.
CONSTITUTION: This electrode material is composed of a copper-iron alloy having a composition consisting of 20-70wt.% iron and the balance copper with inevitable trace elements. Further, if at least one element selected from B, Ge, and Mg is incorporated by 0.005-0.1wt.%, heat resistance can be improved. Moreover, the mechanical properties, castability, workability, corrosion resistance, machinability, etc., of the electrode material can be improved by adding, e.g. Zr, Si, Cr, etc., by ≤1.0wt.% in total, other than the above additive elements. The frequency of the exertion of electrode repolishing by stopping a welding machine can be remarkably reduced because the service life of the electrode of this invention is prolonged, and, accordingly, marked effects can be produced on the improvement in the rate of operation of production equipment and the reduction in labor load.
