To provide a retort-treatable pouch for food.

The retort-treatable pouch includes at least one sheet formed of a 3- to 4-ply laminate material. The laminate material comprises a polyethylene terephthalate outer layer 50, an optional second layer of a nylon 52, a third layer of metallic foil 54 and a polypropylene inner layer 56. These layers are bonded together using a non-solvent adhesive. The retort-treatable pouch is formed by thermally sealing the edges of one or more sheets of the laminate so that the polypropylene layer 56 faces inwardly and is welded together. Next, the pouch and its contents can be pasteurized by thermally treating them without deteriorating the quality of the laminate or the heat seal.
