PURPOSE: To make the potential of a reversible copper electrode near the potential of copper, and to shorten charge or discharge polarization in a wide temperature range, by making the electrode with a mixture of a compound represented as CuxTiS2 and a copper ion conductive solid electrolyte.
CONSTITUTION: This reversible copper electrode is produced by moulding a mixture of a compound represented as CuxTiS2 (0.60<x<0.85) and a copper ion conductive solid electrolyte into a special shape under pressure. The electrode shows electric potential close to the potential of copper in a copper ion conductive solid electrolyte and its charge or discharge polarization is small enough in a wide temperature range. Therefore, the electrode is suitably employed for an electric double layer-utilizing element and a battery.
