To improve the rice washing performance of a brush and the durability of the brush of a rice washer for removing bran on the surfaces of milled rice.
A prescribed amount of the rice is fed into a rice housing container 5 and a rice washing process step is started by driving a rotary vane 21 freely rotatably disposed within the rice housing container 5 by a driving means 23. The circulation that a rice washing section 25 of the rotary vane 21 presses the milled rice 1 to the side wall of the rice housing container 5 and that the milled rice 1 ascends while rotating on the side wall of the rice housing container 5 and moves to the approximate center of the rice housing container 5 is repeated in the rice washing process step. The brush is disposed at the rice washing section 25 of the rotary vanes 21. A controller 24 controls a driving means 23 so as to repeat the cycle of putting the rotating direction of the rotary vanes 21 into a revere direction when the rice washing is repeated a prescribed number of times.
