Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the transparency by forming a single-or multilayer non- oriented or mono- or biaxially oriented film in which at least one layer comprises a cycloolefin copolymer containing repeating units represented by specified formulas.
CONSTITUTION: A cycloolefin and an olefin at a specified ratio are thermally polymerized by adding thereto a metallocene catalyst or the like. After completion of reaction, the polymer is separated to give a highly transparent cycloolefin copolymer which consists of 5-95 mol.% repeating units represented by formula I, 95-5 mol.% repeating units represented by formula II, and 0-5 mol.% each of repeating units represented by formula III and/or formula IV and/or formula V (wherein units of formula III are different from those of formula I; R1 to R5 are each H, aryl, a 1-10C alkyl, or a 3-10C cycloalkyl; and R6 to R14 may be the same, or as R1 to R5, or the like) and which has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 50-250°C, an intrinsic E modulus (Ei) having dependence on the Tg and represented by formula VI (wherein B is 2.93 to 3.19), and a viscosity of 25-500 ml/g. This copolymer is blended with 0-2 wt.% inert particles, a film is formed from the blend, and the film is mono- or biaxially oriented to give an oriented film.
