To provide a river and erosion control structure, and block materials for use in constructing the river and erosion control structure allowing upstream water to swiftly flow downstream even when sediment is accumulated to bury a river due to a disaster such as a landslide.
The river and erosion control structure 2 is constructed beforehand at a riverside or a riverbed of a river 3 or on a slope near a landslide possibility zone 1. The block materials 8 having through cavities 51 or through recesses 81 are piled up in a plurality of stages and rows, and the through cavities 51 or through recesses 81 are allowed to communicate in the upstream and downstream directions of the river. A flexible drain pipe 7 is embedded in the communicating through recesses 81 to maintain an upstream-downstream flow function of the river 3 when a river course is buried with sediment. The block material 5 or 8 for constructing the river and erosion control structure is formed of a concrete material, and has the through cavity 51 or the through recess 81 at the center and recessed and projecting parts 52-56 or 82-86 for assembly at upper and lower faces, side faces and end faces.
