Abstract:
A robotic machine (10) includes a machine tool (18) removably supported in a mount (16) for following a programmable path (42) over a workpiece (26). A calibration pointer (28) includes a housing (30) configured like the tool for being supported in the mount, and a laser (32) is affixed in the housing for emitting a laser beam (34) at the workpiece. In a method of operation, the laser beam is projected from the laser in a focused spot (34a) at the workpiece at an offset therefrom. The spot permits accurate programming of the machine without contacting the workpiece.
