Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rock wool molded form with high heat resistance, and useful as a refractory thermal insulation material, by producing rock wool fleeces while making an organic binder adhere to rock wool fiber surface, fixing a specific boron compound and the like onto the surface of the fleeces followed by molding them under specific conditions. SOLUTION: First, rock wool fleeces are produced by making an organic binder such as phenolic resin adhere to rock wool fiber surface; subsequently, a boron compound (e.g. boric acid) forming B2 O3 when heated in air and a phosphorus compound (e.g. triammonium phosphate) forming P2 O5 when heated in air, each in the form of a solution, are made to adhere to the surface of the resultant fleeces, followed by drying to effect fixing 0.1-6.6 pts.wt., in terms of B2 O3 , of the boron compound and 0.7-17.8 pts.wt., in terms of P2 O5 , of the phosphorus compound, each based on 100 pts.wt. of the fleeces, onto the surface of the fleeces, and a plurality of the fleeces after treated are mutually superposed and then hot-pressed and molded, thus obtaining the objective rock wool molded form.
