To provide a rod for the permanent waves which accomplishes the soft permanent waves along with a reduction in the total weight thereof.

The rod 15 for the permanent waves is constituted of a cylindrical foam body 18 and comprising a polyethylene foam and a core bar 17 mounted axially piercing the center inside of the foam body 18. A flat piece 20 formed with a notch part 24 is connected to one end part of the core bar 17 and a cut part 29 is formed at the other end part thereof. In the application, the tip part of the hair 36 to be curled is set on the foam body 18 with the flat piece 20 mounted on an unillustrated curler for the dressing of permanent waves. Under such a condition, the hair 36 is curled spirally on the surrounding wall of the foam body 18 by turning the flat piece 20, thereby accomplishing the soft permanent waves.
