To provide a roll application method which enables the acquisition of the sufficient hardness even if heated and dried in a low temperature while assuring uniform appearance of application, and thereby manufacturing a surface treated steel sheet and the like excellent in corrosion resistance, scratch resistance, and chemical resistance, and to provide a roll applying apparatus.
The roll application method comprises the step of precoating a coating liquid 14 on a coated surface of a substrate 1 using a precoater B, and then the step of applying a coating liquid 3 on the substrate 1 with a 3-roll coater A when the coating liquid 14 precoated on the substrate 1 is in a liquid state. A coating material comprising an organic resin as a main component is used in one of the coating liquid 14 to be applied with the precoater B and the coating liquid 3 to be applied with the 3-roll coater A, and a coating material comprising a curing agent to cause a reaction with the organic resin is used in the other.
