PURPOSE: To enable grinding with high accuracy and to improve production efficiency by providing a vertically adjusting mechanism and a copying mechanism in a horizontal plane to a roll grinder and driving the grinder so as to perform freely the parallel movement and the turning movement in the horizontal plane.
CONSTITUTION: The fluctuation signal of the screw for the roll of a rolling mill is transmitted as an electrical signal to an electric motor 3 according to the fluctuation in said screw and a screw jack 2 follows up adequately the fluctuation in the screw. A grinder body A is thus capable of maintaining always the level with the axial center of the roll. Therefore, a copying mechanism in a horizontal plane which is constituted of a contact roll 6, a jack cylinder 7, a ring 8, an oscillation shaft 15, and a swing shaft 4 and can follow up automatically the roll motion in the horizontal plane provides effectively the function thereof. As a result, a grindstone 13 is brought adequately into contact with the roll surface of an upper rolling roll 16 and the roll surface is ground with high accuracy at the depth of cut which is maintained always constant.
