This roll grinding machine comprises a main spindle stand 61 comprising a main spindle center for rotating a roll 51, a tailstock 11 comprising a tailstock center for holding the other end part of the roll 51, and the grinding wheel spindle 33 arranged horizontally on which a center part 72 of the grinding wheel 70 for grinding the roll 51 is detachably mounted and has a device for attaching/detaching the grinding wheel 120 comprising a carriage 32 mounted movably in a longitudinal direction of the roll 51 between the main spindle stand 61 and the tailstock 11, a head part 124 mounted on the carriage 32 for holding the grinding wheel 70, an arm part movable to a grinding wheel attaching/detaching position allowing the grinding wheel 70 being attached to/detached from the center part 72 and the grinding wheel spindle 33 for holding the head part 124 such that the center part 72 is positioned at the same level as the grinding wheel spindle 33 and for holding the head part 124 movably along a flat face.
