To enhance the easiness in performing assembly and also the performance and to facilitate the operation of conducting the maintenance.
In a column of a retainer 3, a slot 4 is provided only in one place in its axial direction. This enables getting over a minor diametric side flange 1a of an inner ring 1 easily in the circumferential direction by separating only at a join in one place of a crevice 4, and after getting over, a resilient deformation can be made so as to return to the condition in which getting over the minor diametric side flange 1a is no more possible. When tapered rollers 2 and the retainer 3 are to be installed in the inner ring 1, the retainer 3 is deformed resiliently in the circumferential direction from the crevice 4 in the retainer 3 in such an amount that the tapered rollers can get over the minor diametric side flange 1a of the inner ring 1, and from the minor diametric side, the inner ring 1 is installed in the axial direction. This eliminates necessity for performing a bottom push of the retainer 3 and also necessity for additional tightening of the retainer 3.
