To provide a rolling bearing unit which is washed at a high cleaning level, and to provide its washing method for performing washing at a high cleaning level.
The pivot bearing unit comprises an approximately cylindrical housing 1, a shaft 2 inserted through the housing 1, and rolling bearings 3, 3 mounted between the inner peripheral face of the housing 1 and the outer peripheral face of the shaft 2 for rotatably supporting the housing 1 relative to the shaft 2. The rolling bearings 3, 3 are incorporated between the housing 1 and the shaft 2 in the state of giving constant-position preload thereto. The rolling bearings 3, 3 are filled with lubricant. Besides, the pivot bearing unit has labyrinth seals 5, 5 at a gap of 0.05 mm or smaller. The pivot bearing unit is immersed in washing liquid and washed with ultrasonic waves. After finishing ultrasonic washing, the pivot bearing unit is removed from the washing liquid and dried.
