PURPOSE: To enable rolling without using rolling rolls.
CONSTITUTION: A couple of rolling bodies 1 with tapered side sectional shape are disposed oppositely and fixed by support tools 3. Clearances S of rolling sections formed at the ends 1a of rolling bodies 1 are adjusted by moving a support bar 4 forward and backward. Vibration is applied to the rolling bodies 1 by vibration generating devices (supersonic vibrators) 7 connected at the rear sections of rolling bodies 1 for resonance. A material to be rolled is fed to rolling sections of ends 1a while the rolling bodies 1 are made to resonate. The material to be rolled is extruded by the thrust generated by vibrating the rolling bodies 1 and rolled to manufacture a rolled sheet 11. Physical properties different from heretofore available are imparted to the material to be rolled by rolling by vibration. The method is suitable for rolling a composite material, and for example, suitable for accelerating impregnation of carbon fiber with resin and dispersion of carbon fiber in resin to manufacture a prepreg sheet of high strength.
