PURPOSE: To prevent edge drop of a plate, to reduce kiss roll state of rolls and to roll the plate accurately by thrusting a block against both ends of entrance side strip of working rolls by necessary thrusting force.

CONSTITUTION: A block 4 is provided in a roll gap formed between working rolls 1, 2 to thrust the block 4 against a strip 3 by necessary thrusting force from entrance side of working rolls 1, 2. The block 4 is made to chevron shape corresponding to the shape of working rolls 1, 2, and brought into contact at angles α1, α2 not to be pulled into the roll gap. The block is thrusted against the working rolls 1, 2 by surplus force of not pulled in, and thrusting force is given to both ends of the strip 3. By this way, plastic deformation of the end part of the strip is suppressed, edge drop is eliminated and kiss roll load is reduced.
