PURPOSE: To form a head control signal at the time of reproducing at an optional speed without using a control signal by counting pulses related to the transfer of a recording medium by low-order and high-order bit counters to be controlled by the rotational phase of a rotary head.
CONSTITUTION: A timing signal generating circuit 21' in a pattern signal generating circuit 15' generates a high level output during one frame on the basis of a rotational phase detecting output HSW of the rotary head, sets and resets an FF27 and the high-order bit counter 29 respectively. The counter 29 does not execute unnecessary counting more than one frame. The low-order bit counter 28 controlled at its reset by the Q' output of the FF27 is reset every counting of one frame of capstan FG signals related to the transfer of the recording medium and supplies a carrier signal to the counter 29. The added result of outputs of the counters 28, 29 is outputted from a D/A converter 23 as a head control signal corresponding to the reproducing speed, so that a head control signal at the reproducing time at an optional speed is formed without using a control signal.
