PURPOSE: To improve the fuel consumption performance by setting the formation position of a communication hole which is formed on a side housing and opened in the rotor side part space on the inner side in comparison with a side seal, thus permitting a dense mixed gas layer to be formed on the leading side of a working chamber.
CONSTITUTION: As for a rotary piston engine, a communication hole 25 which is opened and closed by a side seal 18 installed onto the side surface of a rotor 4 and is opened to a suction cycle operation chamber 6a and is opened to the rotor side part space on the inner side in comparison with the side seal 18 is formed on the inside surface of a side housing 3 in the region on the compression side in comparison with the longer axis L1 and on the intake side in comparison with the shorter axis L2. In other words, the communication hole 25 is arranged at the position where the side seal 18 set along the suction cycle operation chamber 6a crosses to allow the suction cycle operating chamber 6a inside and outside the side seal to communicate to the rotor side part space, before the side seal 18 closes the intake ports 8 and 9 and after the compression cycle operation chamber 6b on the leading side passes through a compression top dead center.
